Minions! I want my minions back!

Just how long has it been now since the Gods & Heroes beta server shut down?

No, I have no news of G&H coming back; it is just that I quite often still find myself thinking about that game. So much so, that I find myself wishing that it would resurface someday, somewhere, somehow.

I am not going to make this into a nostalgic post about the game, but I do want to outline the major attraction that I miss.

The minions! For those that played the beta, you will know that they (and the game for that matter) were not exactly ready for primetime but I think most will admit that they were a great concept and could have been made into something special.

The thing that I really miss about them is that they allowed me to actually play as a caster. I was able to send in my tank minions to catch and keep agro and maybe include a range class with a bow. All the while I got to stand away from the main action, throwing my spells and whatnot.

Sure, you can do that with a group but for those times that you just want to play by yourself, this was real slick. Maybe Mr. Hedlund will resurface someday with the I.P. in hand and let us play again.

Yes, I have lofty dreams.

The next Q&A (DCUO)

The next Q&A I will be conducting for www.theoldergamers.com will be for DC Universe Online.  If you have any questions you would like to ask, feel free to leave them as a reply here.

I am very much looking forward to this game and gaining (hopefully) new information on it from this Q&A.

MMO Lifestyle is looking for volunteers

Just wanted to drop a post here saying that things are moving along for mmolifestyle.com and most of the major formatting is done.  Now it is time to work on the forum layout/design.

As such, I am looking to get a few people onboard to help out.  The site is mainly focused on the community aspect of MMORPG games as well as the growing field of Online Trading Card games.  Topics will revolve around community interest items and the like.

We will feature interviews/Q&A’s with the industry community professionals as well as those that run fan sites, write blogs, podcast as well as your “average” forum poster.  Is there a new “Community Spotlight” article up somewhere?  We will link to it.  Is there a topic of discussion on a forum somewhere that the wider community may be interested in?  We will cover it.  Is there a cool new forum game that your games community team came up with and you want to share it?  Just let us know.  Do you have general community related topics and or concerns about the MMO world that you want to talk about?  MMO Lifestyle is the place to do it.

You can help out by sending in links to items, writing your own columns for the site, participate in the forums and many other ways still to come.

If you have an interest, you can read a bit more information here and then contact me via e-mail at writer (at) mmolifestyle dot com.

Also, I may be looking for some semi regular co hosts of a podcast that I may do from time to time.  I don’t think it will be a regular feature at this point, but you never know.

MMO Lifestyle: The re-birth and EQ II CRR Amnerys

My other site, www.mmolifestyle.com is in the midst of getting a make over and slightly new direction.  It will (hopefully) more prominently promote user created content.

I am doing most of this redesign live so if you are bored enough, you can watch its progression.  I hope to have it in a useable/functional sate by the end of this weekend.

I have completely wiped the site out from its previous incarnation.  So, everything will be fresh and new.  Aside from any Q&A articles I had done in the past.  I have saved these to add back into the mix.  The only thing there right now is the possible new design I may use.  I still have many more things to tweak and add to it before I make that decision though.

The anticipated live/launch date is within two weeks.  It will feature a new Q&A with the new EQII Community Relation Representative, Amnerys.

I hope you all stop by in the upcoming days/weeks.

Making LON work with EQ and EQII

During the April 29th, 2008 broadcast of the EQ2’s-day podcast (over at Online Gaming Radio), Zanadi and Dellmon again talk about their LON frustrations. The frustration comes from the impression that on the special LON weekends (or even in general) in EQ/EQ2 that the cards and packs just do not drop very often at all.  Dellmon was saying that he believes the drop rate on these cards (on the increased drop rate weekends) are as rare or rarer than exquisite master chest drops in game.

I feel the same way and echo his/their frustration in this.  I have been playing EQII daily from about a month before ROK came out and in that time, I have received three (maybe four) single card drops.  That’s about one card every two months between two characters each on a separate server.

They also talk about the “spam” message announcement that are constantly broadcast to the EQ/EQ2 players.  As well as the LON game not being casual and somewhat inaccessible to a non trading card game player.  Inaccessible in that games are not five minutes or less and can have a large learning curve.

Dellmon suggests that we should be able to harvest booster/promo cards.  He also mentions that someone in the chat channel at the time says that the developers have already said no to this idea.  I too think this is a good idea and should be reconsidered.

This post is not about the negatives though, it is about solutions.  So, let’s take a look at some more ideas here.
